Mussanje Maathu : Movie Review (Kannada)
It was quite sometime since I watched a movie in theatre. So I referred TOI ratings for movies released during the week, and to my surprise Mussanje Maathu (Kannada), had scored over Jannat (Hindi) and Chronicles of Narnia (English). The TOI rated it 4/5, meaning very good. So I decided to give it a try.
The movie cast includes Sudeep, Ramya and Anuprabhakar. In the first scene, Sudeep meets Ramya in a train (remember Jab We Met?). But quite opposite to Jab We Met, the heroine is in a state of depression here and hero tries to console her. The JWM similarity ends there.
Sudeep is an RJ at Radio Mirchi and ‘Mussanje Maathu’ is a show run by him in the evenings where depressed call him up & share their problems (remember Lage Raho Munnabhai?). So expect lot of sentimental sequences in the movie. The movie runs slow at times and Sudeep fails to impress like Sunjay Dutt in Lage Raho. The script is to blame here.
I am not going to disclose further story. Mahesh, the director of the movie has done a decent work in his directorial debut. The storyline is good. Sudeep is superb in his role. The only drawback is that the emotional scenes, which are in plenty, could have been handled in a much better way.
My rating – 3/5 (Average)

My review goes like this..
“After watching the 1st half, I thought, it would be a BLOCKBUSTER.. But, in the 2nd half, pace slowed down with unnecessary sub plots & 2 extra songs.. Climax was also very, very good..
All in all, a VERY, VERY GOOD movie if not GREAT.. For me, it easily qualifies as the BEST MOVIE OF THE YEAR for it’s freshness in narration.. First half of the movie is really refreshing..
Before watching the movie you will have one of the following songs as your favourite viz., ‘Ninna nodalentho.. ‘ , ‘Kaddalu manasanna’, ‘Anuraaga aralo samaya’, ‘aadaasha bhoomi indu ..’ ..
But, after watching the movie, it is ‘ENAAGALI MUNDE SAAGU NEE..’ song which keeps you haunting you like anything..
KITCHCHA IS SPLENDID AS EVER.. RAMYA IS UPTO THE MARK.. Only drawback of the movie is unnecessary sub plots in the second half.. But, otherwise, this is a REAL GOOD, CLEAN FAMILY ENTERTAINER..
RADIO JACKEY concept has been used superbly in the movie.. There are some really heart rendering moments in the movie which becomes a bit overdose in the second half.. NEENAASAM ASWATH in a cameo role rips your heart ..
ALL THE SONGS HAVE BEEN SHOT REALLY WELL.. For me, “ENAAGALI MUNDE SAAGU NEE” & “KADDALU MANASANNA” are the two songs which stand out..
I am really happy with this director MAHESH.. He has all the hall marks of becoming a great director if only he is bit cautious about going overboard on sentiments..
PLEASE DO NOT MISS THIS MOVIE .. WE NEED SUCH MOVIES & DIRECTORS FOR SANDALWOOD TO PROSPER..
Whatever it is, my heart is in LOVE WITH THIS MOVIE.. Somehow, it is saying I HAVE NOT SEEN A MOVIE LIKE THIS.. I am planning to watch it again.. Many here, who have watched & casted if off might call me crazy, but, still I’M LIKING MUSSANJE MAATHU LIKE ANYTHING.. Something is very fresh in this movie.. SUDEEP, RAMYA & ANU PRABHAKAR makes you feel for them.. ‘ENAAGALI MUNDE SAAGU NEE..’ song continues to echo in my mind.. In the recent times, apart from Munaagru maLe & Cheluvina Chittaara, none of the movies had made my eyes wet so much ..
My only suggestion to anybody planning to watch MM, watch it with heart.. You will fall in love with it..”
By looking at the rating by TOI, Even i saw the movie ‘Mussanje Mathu’. Agree with your rating Radhesh.. 3/5. It could have been made better by Sudeep, Ramya… Songs were touching. The movie has a set of messages for every one of us…
@ Ranga,
Looks like u r a big Kannada movie fan
Phew! Ur review is bigger than mine
@Srinivas,
Agree
I saw the movie as a fan of sudeep….But even if ur not one his fan I would always advice u to watch the movie as I am sure it has a message for everyone.Its a complete family movie (not neccesarily an entertainer).Though the movei is slow at times we can forgo it for the message it delivers to the society.I hope this movie is a hit inorder to encourage more of these in the future.
@Radesh,
You are right.. I am a big kannada movie buff..
@Ganesh, you are absolutely right.. This movie has a big message to all especially the ones who have undergone suffering in their life.. It’s a kind of great consolement for them.. Such movies need to be supported to the hilt.. SANDALWOOD would grow big time with these kinds of movies..

“Today I had gone to Uma for the morning show. By 10:15, about 70% were filled up in Balcony.
First of all, I sincerely thank all those fellows who told it’s a bad movie…also those ‘walkout’ fellows…since my expectations hit an all time low while going to the movie.
and to tell frankly, THIS IS ONE OF THE OUTSTANDING MOVIES I have watched over the past few years or so….
ee picture ista aagodhu lifenalli ondhu hantha reach aagirorge maatra….Maybe the same youth people who told that this movie is crap, bad and all….probably after 10 years if they see the same movie on TV…they will probably strike some chord with the movie…THEN they would have reached that stage…
But right thru the movie I was visibly emotional, choking…..In fact I noticed after the movie some girls, ladies were somewhat emotional, choking while coming out..THEIR FACE TOLD IT…No audience screamed at the screen nor any walkouts…
Kaadtha idhe…kaadtha idhe….kann muchidre…those scenes / characters go by…that ‘darling’ chintu boy…that autodriver ranganna episode…..then that aishwarya girl…especially when they show her fully in the end….that fellow who says he hit his father and unable to show his face….that scene when Ramya says “I”….”Naanu”……”Maduve aagtha idhini” & Sudeep’s scintillating performance after that…..also his performance in the end…..kaadtha idhe…kaadtha idhe….”
U shud be really a great person for having given the film a 3 rating.It was a HORRIBLE ,PATHETIC & DISASTER MOVIE I have watched offlate.Its the one & only movie for which I got up & came out from the theatre in my life time.
U shud be either one of those rona-dhona ppl or u dont know wht humour is:)
